Swine flu has already claimed the lives of thirty people in the Iranian capital Tehran, an Iranian official has announced.
"According to the statistics, some 6,000 residents of Tehran province have undergone tests for suspicions of swine flu infection," said Director General of Tehran's Natural Disasters Headquarters, Mohammad-Reza Mahmoudi on Wednesday.
Mahmoudi further pointed out that a total of 2,800 more people have been hospitalized because of infection with the H1N1 virus.
Iran's Minister of Health Marzieh Vahid-Dastjerdi announced last week that more than a million in the country have tested positive for A/H1N1 virus.
"According to infectious disease specialists, more than a million Iranians have so far returned positive results for A/H1N1 virus infection across the country," she said.
According to Vahid-Dastjerdi, Iran's first batch of swine flu vaccine will be available within the next 10 days.
She added that the authorities had taken all precautionary measures to control the spread of the disease following the return of pilgrims from the Hajj.
Vahid-Dastjerdi also announced that Iran had received a letter from the World Health Organization (WHO), congratulating the country as one that has adopted comprehensive measures to contain the spread of the A/H1N1 virus.
Swine flu was first detected in Mexico in April 2009 and was declared a pandemic by the WHO in June.
